Advocacy

To many, the essence of the Council's value to the community is its ability to speak out clearly and forcefully on behalf of those who are powerless. Speaking through the media, legislative hearings, public forums and its task forces, the Council awakens Long Island's political, business and community leaders to the plight of the less fortunate.

LONG ISLAND ADVOCACY EFFORTS

THE ONE VOICE CAMPAIGN
A campaign inspired by Paul Tonna's motivational keynote address delivered last Spring, in which he charged the Long Island health and human service sector with the task of proactively re-shaping the public's perception of the sector, to speak with a single, unified voice about our formidable value and scope.

Ultimately, a successful One Voice CAmpaign wil result in the sector reaching a greater portion of the population it aims to serve, increase its advocacy efforts and abilities and in turn generate a greater. ongoing financial commitment from the public for the work of the sector at large.

We encourage every health and human service agency to join and participate.  You an access the Invitation letter and Sign on Form here.

EVERY CHILD MATTERS – LONG ISLAND CAMPAIGN

Help raise public attention to children’s issues during elections.  Help ensure that children are a priority in this election!

The Every Child Matters Education Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan organization working to make children, youth, and families a national political priority. We promote the adoption of smart policies for children and youth, including:

·
Ensuring that children have access to affordable, comprehensive health care services
·
Expanding early-care and learning opportunities and after-school programs
·
Preventing violence against children in their homes and communities
·
Alleviating child poverty
·         Addressing the special needs of children with parents in prison

By raising the visibility of these issues during an election cycle, we urge the candidates to support, and the public to demand greater investments in programs that address the needs of America’s families. Our strategies to reach these goals include:

·
Conducting candidate and policy-maker education
·
Undertaking earned & paid media, including OpEds, letters-to-the-editor, billboards, radio ads, and newspaper ads
·
Carrying out direct public education and outreach campaigns
·
Distributing resources, information, and state-specific data on the status of children and youth
·
Communicating with our network of tens of thousands of child advocates in local communities
·         Building strategic partnerships with state and local child advocacy and child-serving organizations
