Planning & Coalition Building
Historically, the primary role of the Council has been community planning. Today, as many of society's revered institutions experience merger, acquisition and downsizing, planning assumes its most significant place in a half century. In this climate, the Council's relationships with a broad array of community leaders, elected officials, public commissioners, advocates, business executives and citizens, create an invaluable arena to examine a variety of community problems and to collaborate for solutions.

This year, the Council convened policy makers and advocates to address issues from the Nassau County fiscal crisis to health insurance for children. To the Council planning is more than a technical process of data collection - it is a public process of informed and collaborative decision making.
