The Council sponsors regular forums on a wide variety of issues of importance to Long Islanders concerned with the health and well-being of society.
In 2000 more than 2,000 Long Islanders attended sessions sponsored by the Council. Most prominent of these sessions were:
- Welfare Reform Conference, co-sponsored by the Nassau County Dept. of Social Services, presented an update on the welfare system since the implementation of welfare reform.
- Transportation for Employment provided a forum for discussion of transportation issues and barriers for Long Islanders in need.
- Long Island's Children's Conference provided an opportunity for more than 300 Long Islanders to discuss and propose solutions to problems faced by Long Island's children.
- EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) Conference prepared 150 of Long Island's human service providers for the new system of issuing food stamps and cash assistance electronically.
