Iris Lav, guest speaker, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, will present:
§ The budget gaps: that New York and an increasing number of other states are now facing,
§ Next Steps: that Congress and State Legislatures should be taking in response to this situation to minimize the negative impact on New York’s fiscal problems
§ The current New York situation: The outlook for fall 2008 and for the 2009-10 budget negotiations.
Ron Deutsch, New Yorkers for Fiscal Fairness, will provide:
§ Lessons Learned: Steps taken by the New York Legislature, over Governor Pataki's vetoes, to balance the state budget during the last recession. What worked and what didn’t.
