Home Energy Assistance Program Now Open

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) opened for the 2015-2016 heating season on November 16, 2015. HEAP is a federally funded program that helps low-income households with the cost of heating their homes during the winter months.

Eligible households can receive a one time benefit of up to $625 this winter depending on income, household size and composition and home heating type.

An additional Emergency Benefit may also be available for households that are in danger of running out of fuel or having their utility service shut off. Applications for the Emergency Benefit will be accepted starting January 4, 2016.

Applications for HEAP can be submitted online through My Benefits or by filling out the paper application and mailing it to the HEAP certifier in your county.

More information about the HEAP program can be found here.
